Woolworths launches automated eStore in Melbourne

Woolworths in Australia is accelerating the delivery of online orders and potentially improve order accuracy by applying novel technology. The rollout starts with an automated eStore at its Carrum Downs supermarket in Melbourne.

The goal is to reduce aisle congestion for in-store customers, since  Woolworths’ personal shoppers choose most items from inventory without having to enter the store. The system by Takeoff Technologies is said to help the store fulfill 500 % more online orders in comparision to a standard Woolworths outlet. This new level of automation will dramatically improve the speed, efficiency, and accuracy of the picking process of thousands of online orders delivered to customers in southeast Melbourne suburbs every week, according to Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci.
