Deepfakes aren’t very good—nor are the tools to detect them | Ars Technica

Facebook led an effort to combat deepfakes and announced the Deepfake Detection Challenge However, the best deepfake detector to emerge from this challenge manages only to catch about two-thirds of deepfakes.

According to Henry Farid of UC Berkeley, creating a really useful deepfake detector might be even harder than we think, because it’s basically a cat and mouse game. New techniques rapidly emerge and malicious deepfake makers will certainly try hard to outwit detectors.
