iSENDu FAQs
- I started iSENDu. What now?
- You will see a beam that scans for other iSENDu peers, which will start to appear after a while. Just click on them, to establish a connection (wait until the peer turns from grey into black and the animation stops). Then, double tab on the central iSENDu peer. That opens the main menu selection. Choose the information that you want to share and drag the red point on the iSENDu peer you want to share data with.
- Can iSENDu automatically enable Bluetooth?
- Unfortunately this is not supported by Apple, since iSENDu uses a custom interface.
- Why does sometimes a iSENDu peer appears twice?
- It's a known Bluetooth issue! Don't worry, you cannot connect to a "Ghost" peer and your data will not be sent to a "Black Hole". If you click on a "Ghost", you will get an error message.
- How come sometimes iSENDu does not find any peers?
- It's one of Apple's Bluetooth implementation issues. There are two possible solutions: 1) shake your iPhone until it vibrates or 2) quit iSENDu and start it again. Unfortunately there is currently no fix by Apple for these known Bluetooth issues. We hope they will be fixed in a future OS update by Apple.
- What is iSENDu's maximum number of connected peers?
- iSENDu supports six simultaneous connections at most.
- Can I refuse the connection attempt of a iSENDu peer?
- No, this is currently not supported. But we will integrate this in the first update.
- Can I block incoming data from a peer?
- No, this is currently not supported. We plan this for a future update.
- Is the data encrypted?
- No, the data is just archived with the Apple APIs and sent "as it is".
- Why can I select only 1 picture at once?
- Unfortunately our 4 picture picking at once solution was rejected by apple. We scaled back and iSENDu now features an option where you can compress the selected image before sending it.
- What is the average bandwith of Bluetooth?
- That depends a bit on the environment and to the proximity of the iSENDu peers. You usually get a value around 20kB per seconds.
- How come the selection time of images is different?
- That depends on the actual size of the picture that is selected. The bigger the picture, the longer the wait.
- Is there an option to send pictures in the full quality?
- Yes. Before sending an image you can choose between full or compressed quality.
- Where can i check my currently selected items?
- Just tab on the red point and hold it. A small list with the selected items will appear.
- How do I delete selected items?
- Just drag the red point to the trashcan symbol in the lower right corner.
- Why can't I delete single items of my selection?
- This is planned for a future update.
- Does iSENDu stop scanning for peers after the scanning animations stops?
- No, iSENDu permanently scans the enviroment for other peers in the background, even without the scanning animation. We implemented it this way, because we think that you as a user, would like a visual feedback, after iSENDu is started.
- Is there a way to reset iSENDu without restarting the application?
- Yes. Just shake the iPhone until it vibrates.
- Can I share data with multiple iSENDu peers at once?
- Not yet, this is planned for a future update.
- Can I share videos with iSENDu?
- No, this is currently not supported. We have this on our agenda for a future update. And frankly, we wouldn't recommend to share a video over a Bluetooth connection. Remember: Bluetooth has a connection speed of about 20kb per second. A video has several megabytes and would require several minutes for a successful transmission of a single video. However, since we are going to include WLAN/3G connection in a future release of iSENDu, you can expect iSENDu being capable of this. Promised ;-)
- What about WLAN/3G support?
- Yes, we will do that in a future release.
- Is there multilingual support?
- Not yet. We are planning it for a future update.
- Can I set a default value?
- No, this is currently not supported. We plan this for a future release.
- Why is the image of the contact not transmitted?
- This is planned for the first update.
- Are there any options that I can change?
- No, currently there are no options that you can change. Just start iSENDu and you can share data. It's as simple as that! ;-)
- Is there a possibility to send data directly to a Mac/PC?
- No, the current version of iSENDu only supports data sharing between iPhones. We intend to add a Mac/PC client in one of our next releases.
- What about a progress bar during transmission?
- Well, we thought about this. We may build one in the future and implement it. Since it usually does not take too long to share data, we feel that our current animation schema is perfect. But if you think that such a thing is absolutely necessary, just drop us an email.
- Is iSENDu open source??
- No, but we plan to publish interesting parts of the implementation in the future.
- When can I expect the first update of iSENDu?
- We plan an update with the end of 2009.
- Will the first update be free?
- Yes, the update will be free.
- How many iSENDu releases will be there in the future?
- That depends on the success of iSENDu. Hopefully many :-).
- How much work and man hour was iSENDu?
- Everything (including concept, design, re-design, homepage, youtube video, facebook, twitter, blog...) was about 2000 hours. The programming required about 700 hours work (including several prototypes, graphical designs,...)
